Wehive use Dittofi to build their app

One of the great debates in the business world is the benefits of in-house vs. outsourcing for projects. While outsourcing can often seem cheaper, using in-house resources can end up being far more inefficient and build mid to long term risks into an organization. This has lead to a rise in technologies and methodologies used to stimulate internal resources to work more effectively together.

One exciting company that has been focusing inward on stimulating intentional, hands-on collaboration within organizations is wehive. Founded in 2022 by two industry veterans Lynn Kosloskus (CEO) and Ariel DeFrancesco (Founder), wehive has developed an app, methodology and a series of corporate workshops that are designed to increase productivity and effectiveness of in-house employees. wehive does this by helping in-house talent create better and more meaningful connections inside of organizations.

We caught up with wehive’s founder, Ariel DeFrancesco, to learn more about wehive and how her founding team utilized Dittofi to build an app for wehive in under 30 hours.

Culture and collaboration are the foundation for success. People are our most valuable resource, empower them to drive additional value for your business.

How did you come up with the idea for the wehive app?

Ariel DeFrancesco: We realized that it was damn-near impossible to network remotely.

There were no longer “happenstance encounters” around a water cooler. Moreover, even if there was a theoretical water cooler, it’s not as if those happenstance encounters are necessarily productive. Those encounters were simply a function of propinquity.

Propinquity refers to the physical or psychological proximity between people. Propinquity can mean physical proximity, a kinship between people, or a similarity in nature between things.  If you consider the connections that you’ve formed in your life, the vast majority of them are a function of propinquity. For example, bumping into someone who works out in the same gym as you can lead to great friendships, however in terms of work productivity there is often very little overlap in terms of friends and productive work collaboration.

The idea behind the wehive app and methodology was to tackle the phenomenon of propinquity head-on so as to deliver a uniquely modern, user-centered work experience – one that all users deserve.

With the wehive app our goal is to enable colleagues to ask for help, share hacks, or express development interest. It’s a place where busy bees thrive and we add value to organizations by:

  • Improving culture and collaboration
  • Facilitating remote networking
  • Increasing diversity, equity & inclusion
  • Flexing resources, insourcing
  • Increasing employee retention

Dittofi quickly became a no-brainer as all of the components are fully customizable (which is exceptionally difficult on Microsoft’s Power platform) and the code is fully exportable (not physically possible on the other platforms).

Why did you decide to build your app using Dittofi?

Ariel DeFrancesco: It took nearly a month vetting the various software development options. Nonetheless, the options are finite: the traditional route of writing the program from scratch vs. using the market behemoth Microsoft’s Power platform vs. something in-between like Bubble or Dittofi.

Dittofi quickly became a no-brainer as all of the components are fully customizable (which is exceptionally difficult on Microsoft’s Power platform) and the code is fully exportable (not physically possible on the other platforms). When we further came to find that Dittofi was offering in person training to be onboarded onto their platform we couldn’t wait to sign up.

After sign up we worked very closely with one of Dittofi’s extremely talented trainers. With their help I think we’ve utilized every aspect of Dittofi’s platform that we physically could. Our UI/UX were custom-made in Figma by partnering with Zapta Technologies. Our Dittofi trainer showed us how to create those custom experiences on the Dittofi platform. The cherry on top was him showing us how to incorporate our custom gif into our first product release.

The first version of our app took less than 30 hours across all team members and the experience of building our app with Dittofi has been nothing short of exceptional. There simply isn’t anything else like it.

The wehive app, built on Dittofi uses:

  • A highly custom and interactive hive graphic developed using HTML & CSS (in the screenshot above),
  • Custom colors & custom typographies
  • A real-time messaging system developed using Dittofi’s websockets technology
  • Ability to create, read, update and delete user posts
  • Custom golang & javascript libraries

What does the future look like for wehive and your app?

Ariel DeFrancesco: We’re in the first round of user testing with a group of 50 individuals for feedback and feature prioritization. After a few iterations, we have a short list of companies that have expressed interest in partnering with us.

The future of our app development with Dittofi looks both bright and sustainable. We’re confident in the fast, end-to-end turnaround the program provides, as well as its flexibility with customizations and code ownership.

Following on from the initial Dittofi Teams Training, our development team has now taken full ownership over the ongoing development of our application, using Dittofi.
